Marvel’s Wolverine Actor Shared His Thoughts on the Game’s Mixed Reviews
It’s been almost a month since Insomniac Games released Marvel’s Wolverine, its latest entry in the Marvel superhero universe. Many expected it to be one of the year’s standout games, but it has turned out to be quite controversial, judging by the reactions of both players and critics.
One of the game’s biggest highlights is the titular hero himself, played by Liam McIntyre. The actor recently claimed he was surprised by the mixed reviews of Marvel’s Wolverine. He was also glad that so much content appeared on social media once the game became available to everyone. McIntyre shared his comments in the latest episode of Behind The Voice. You can check out more of his words below:
“I think I was at least personally surprised. I knew what game we made, I put my absolute heart and soul into this thing. And for 4-5 years I did it with my whole heart, and the team are just the best, and they worked so hard. So, for me inside, I’m just like, no, it doesn’t… Everyone’s going to have different opinions, and I think it was a roller coaster that week, and then when the game finally came out, it felt like a new day for a lot of us, especially me.
People are finally playing it, and you’re hearing responses from the people playing the game, and you’re like, “Well, this is the game I made.” Look, everyone’s going to have different opinions about it, but I’m just so exceptionally proud, and when it finally came out and people got their hands on it, my feed is like just filled with photo mode stuff, which I didn’t think about. I was like, “Oh, yeah, I forgot about that.”
A week after launch, Marvel’s Wolverine’s Metacritic score dropped, and it hasn’t recovered since then: it was 76 and is down by one point now. The user score has also slipped from 6.8 to 6.6. As is known, most criticism has focused on the gameplay, but Insomniac Games listened to player feedback and recently released an update that completely disables the scent trails.
That said, sales of Marvel's Wolverine aren't doing too badly. According to Millie A, 3 million copies had been sold as of September 29, although PlayStation and Insomniac have yet to release official figures.
Marvel’s Wolverine is available exclusively on PlayStation 5.
