Mafia II and Mafia III Are Rumored to Release on Current-Gen Consoles Soon

This summer, shortly before the official announcement of Mafia: The Omertà Collection—a full franchise anthology—Mafia: The Definitive Edition received updated ESRB ratings for current-generation consoles. The same thing has happened with other titles in the series—though without an accompanying official announcement yet—and fans seem to have a pretty good idea of what’s coming next.

Specifically, Mafia II: Definitive Edition and Mafia III: Definitive Edition have also received age ratings from the ESRB, although both pages are currently unavailable. Apparently, an announcement from 2K won’t be long in coming. Interestingly, the news broke today— the exact day the original Mafia III was released 10 years ago on PC, Xbox One, and PS4.

Mafia II: Definitive Edition & Mafia III: Definitive Edition are listed on ESRB for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series. Rumours indicate 60 FPS gameplay with technical improvements.

As for the aforementioned Mafia: The Omertà Collection, it became available on August 14, the same day Man of Honor DLC for Mafia: The Old Country launched. Along with technical improvements, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S users finally gained access to Mafia: The Definitive Edition—a remake of the original game released in 2020.

Hangar 13 is officially working on a new Mafia game, which, according to rumors, will be a sequel to The Old Country, bringing players back to Empire Bay and may even feature multiplayer for the first time in the franchise’s history. Speaking of Mafia II, there’s also word of a full-fledged remake using Unreal Engine 5. Incidentally, thanks to a recent Steam leak, we’ve gotten a glimpse of an alternate ending for the cult classic that changes the course of events after the iconic line revealing that Joe wasn’t part of the deal.
