Rockstar Sees Lucia from GTA 6 as Good as Niko Bellic and Arthur Morgan
Rockstar Games is known for charismatic, well-developed protagonists, and fans are hoping that standard holds up in GTA 6, the studio's hugely anticipated next project featuring two leads this time. The developers also want the relationship between Jason and Lucia to be a central focus, with player actions shaping both gameplay and story to varying degrees.
Lucia's been getting particular attention lately, with signs pointing to her playing a bigger role in the overall story than initially expected. In a new interview with the Love Magazine, the game's writer, Alexa D'Agostino, spoke about how the team approached her character, claiming she believes Lucia will stand alongside Rockstar iconic protagonists like Niko Bellic from GTA IV and Arthur Morgan from Red Dead Redemption 2. You can check out her comments below.
“When it came to writing Lucia, I thought of the women I know—my mother was an immigrant who grew up in Newark, New Jersey, close to Lucia’s hometown of Liberty City. I thought about the way she raised me: rowdy, kind, but not to take any sh*t. I related a lot to Lucia and writing her came very naturally to me. There are many badass women like her, just as there are many men like Jason. We just focused on capturing that. When you are focusing on writing a fully realized person with their own wants, you’re going to get something perfectly imperfect—with clichés, but also undeniably real. That’s how you get a woman that can stand tall next to the likes of Arthur Morgan and Niko Bellic.”
That's a bold claim, considering Niko and Arthur are arguably two of the most beloved characters in Rockstar's history. It'll be interesting to see whether the studio can actually deliver on that.
Meanwhile, the GTA 6 marketing push keeps building momentum, with a new leak suggesting a 30-second TV spot could air this week. It's unclear if that means a full trailer is coming too, but with the release just over a month out, it would feel like a natural next step.
Additionally, there might be a different kind of concern brewing. Cyberleek, the hacker behind more than a dozen leaked GTA 6 gameplay videos this summer, has shown renewed signs of activity, as was spotted on social media. Since the last video revealed part of the game's prologue, some fans are worried a return could mean major story spoilers this time around.
Grand Theft Auto VI will release on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
