More Details About Scrapped GTA 6 Idea with Four Protagonists

It's no secret that during GTA 6's development, Rockstar had to scrap a number of ideas for various reasons. A new leak now suggests the game's storyline could have gone in a very different direction.

Earlier this year, Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson confirmed GTA 6 originally had four main characters before the studio decided that was too many. On GTAForums, the source behind the 2023 leaks added more context, claiming that alongside Jason and Lucia, the game originally featured two more protagonists, Billy and Kai, both corrupt cops. In that earlier version of the story, one of them would've died as a result of Jason and Lucia's choices, with the other hunting them down for revenge in the second half of the game. That was the original plan before Rockstar scrapped it.

Alleged details about the cancelled GTA 6 story with 4 characters:

• A team of four: Jason, Lucia and two playable dirty cops.
• There was a midgame shake up, where one of the cops dies because of a decision Jason and Lucia made.
• Then the rest of the game story was about the remaining cop hunting them down.
• It got too convoluted at some point so they decided to cancel it.

Interestingly, this seems to line up with a separate leak that spread on 4chan, which allegedly reveals plot details, including a breakdown of possible endings. Even so, none of this should be taken as confirmed, since nothing's been officially verified.

Meanwhile, gamers are hoping a new GTA 6 trailer lands this month, likely focused on the story. The marketing campaign is picking up steam regardless: Rockstar recently confirmed the game's rating, and murals, posters, and other promotional material have started appearing in major cities.

Grand Theft Auto VI will release on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
