Hideo Kojima’s P.T. Has Become Available on PC Thanks to a Mod

Hideo Kojima's Silent Hills is perhaps the most desperately wanted canceled game in gaming history. The horror project was meant to be the next entry in the legendary franchise, developed alongside director Guillermo del Toro with Norman Reedus in the lead role.

The game was ultimately canceled following a conflict between Kojima and Konami, but it left behind a famous demo, P.T. After Silent Hills was canceled, P.T. was pulled from the PS Store, though it's now unexpectedly resurfacing elsewhere. Reddit user LoreanXavier revealed he’s working on porting P.T. from PlayStation 4 to PC, using C++ and Vulkan for rendering alongside the original game data to recreate it as faithfully as possible. A 25-minute gameplay video of the PC version is already up on their YouTube channel.

A fan is rebuilding P.T. as a native Windows PC port, reportedly around 97% complete.

The developer is reverse-engineering the PS4 executable and rebuilding the game's logic and rendering in C++ and Vulkan, using original game data from the user's own copy.

  • The full game from the opening screen through the ending
  • Original Lua scripts, traps, cutscenes, and Lisa's animations
  • Rebuilt Fox Engine rendering, including shadows, reflections, motion blur, bloom, and volumetric fog
  • Original Wwise audio, radio broadcasts, and controller vibration
  • 60+ FPS instead of the PS4 version's 30 FPS lock
  • Any resolution, plus mouse and keyboard
  • DualSense, Xbox, and other controllers
  • Optional AMD FSR 3.1

Hopefully, LoreanXavier manages to see this through, and Konami doesn't shut it down the way Sony recently did with a fan's attempt at a PC multiplayer version of The Last of Us Part II. As for Silent Hill, a new installment in the franchise titled Townfall, developed by Screen Burn, was released late last month. The game has received generally positive reviews from critics and players—its Metacritic score currently stands at 80. Meanwhile, Hideo Kojima is currently working with Xbox, which will publish his two upcoming projects: the horror game OD and Physint, a spiritual successor to Metal Gear Solid. Both remain early in development with no confirmed release date yet.
