Sony Pictures Is in Talks to Produce a Live-Action Battlefield Movie

There are more and more video game adaptations, and one of the upcoming ones is a movie based on the Battlefield game series. It’s still unclear whether this will be a direct adaptation of a specific franchise title or an original story, but details have already emerged about which film studio is most likely to take on the project.

A new report from The Wrap claims Sony Pictures is winning the race to secure the rights for a live-action Battlefield film, ahead of Warner Bros. Discovery, Amazon MGM Studios, Universal, and Netflix. Christopher McQuarrie, known for his work on the Mission: Impossible franchise and Top Gun: Maverick, will direct and write the upcoming movie. Michael B. Jordan, star of Sinners and Black Panther, will serve as one of the producers of Battlefield and may also take on a leading role.

Sony Pictures is the frontrunner to acquire the live-action ‘BATTLEFIELD’ movie.

  • Michael B. Jordan will produce & potentially star in the film.
  • Christopher McQuarrie is set to direct.

News of the Battlefield adaptation first surfaced this spring. Electronic Arts will also reportedly assist in the film’s development by serving as consultants. The film’s release date is unknown at this time, as the production studio has not yet been named—though Sony is the most likely candidate, given recent reports.

Just as it does in the games, Battlefield will also compete with Call of Duty on the big screen. Peter Berg, the director of Hancock and Battleship, will direct the film, and its events will take place within the Modern Warfare universe. The Call of Duty movie is scheduled to premiere on June 30, 2028.
