Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux Will Get a Free Next-Gen Update Later This Month

Metro 2039, the next installment in the game series from Ukrainian studio 4A Games, officially launches next year. But the developers have a surprise lined up for fans much sooner, already this month.

4A Games has announced Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux will get a free update for current-gen consoles on October 29, with PC players getting it a week earlier on October 22. The update brings improved textures, lighting, animations, sound, and more. Notably, consoles will be able to run the games at 60 FPS in 4K, or even 120 FPS with upscaling, while the PS5 Pro gains PSSR support and the PC version gets DLSS.

Later this month, METRO 2033 Redux and METRO Last Light Redux will get a next-gen update on Consoles and PC.

Now has never been a better time to enter the tunnels of METRO ahead of METRO 2039.

But that's not all from 4A Games. On social media, the studio also announced total Metro franchise sales have passed 50 million copies, which is a genuinely impressive milestone. The next mainline game, Metro 2039, confirmed last month at State of Play, is scheduled for February 4, 2027. There's also been talk this year that Saber Interactive was working on a multiplayer spin-off in the same universe, though reports suggest development has run into trouble and the project could end up canceled.

Speaking of upgraded versions of Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux, the developers confirmed owners of the original games get the upgrade completely free. And conveniently, Steam's autumn sale is running at the moment, with both games currently 90% off, making it a pretty good time to pick them up if you haven't already.
