GTA 6 Leak Shows How the Game Looked in 2015: Map Details Revealed

There are less than two months left until GTA 6, the most anticipated game of the year, launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, and fans are undoubtedly counting down. A new leak has now brought back old footage showing what GTA 6 looked like in its early development stages, specifically back in 2015.

It all stems from a leaked early build of GTA V, which turns out to contain numerous hidden references to the sixth installment, enough that players can actually drive around an early version of the GTA 6 map, spotting buildings and details that later appeared in Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look on Netflix. X user Synaptic, who's previously covered various GTA 6 map details and cut content, posted a five-minute video showing off some of these locations, including the port area, which you can check out below.

That's not the only video exploring the map, either. Another user flew over part of it in a fighter jet for more than five minutes straight. Judging by that scale, the open world in GTA 6 looks set to be genuinely massive, especially Vice City itself, with its dense skyscraper skyline, coastal stretches, and industrial and suburban zones. As that user pointed out, the final map is likely even bigger and more detailed than what's shown here.

The early build has also revealed some content was cut from GTA 6, mostly tied to the map. Based on these leaks, some fans have pieced together a version of the map including removed areas in the north and south, featuring a version of Key West and a section representing South America. Rockstar Games hasn't confirmed any of this, though, and still hasn't released an official map for the game. The early GTA V build also reconfirmed a planned Liberty City DLC, referencing the GTA IV setting, and revealed other cut content, including a space station and a mansion location.

Rockstar Games has also announced physical releases of the GTA 6’s soundtrack in three editions, Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album.
