Early GTA 5 Build Has Been Leaked—It Shows 200 GB of Cut Content

As is well known, a significant amount of content was cut during the development of GTA 5: reports indicated the game was originally supposed to include full-fledged story DLCs, one of which was set to take place in Liberty City, the setting of GTA 4. Thanks to a new leak, we can now take a closer look at what the developers were working on.

Well-known data miner affmalyt shared information about a new leaked early build of GTA 5. Specifically, it became known that approximately 200 GB of game files, including source code, had surfaced. They contain cut content from GTA 5, as well as early development work on the sixth installment. Among the most interesting details is the Liberty City map from GTA 4, which was significantly larger than in the original fourth game. The build also includes locations from the GTA 5 DLC dedicated to Trevor—including a space station and an Arab mansion. More detailed information, provided by user TJGM, can be found below:

• GTA VI map assets and other VI files. It's not the full map and it looks like it might just be LOD assets.
• Files from the cut Liberty City DLC for GTA V, which shows us a MUCH larger Liberty City than what we got in GTA IV.
• Assets from the cut GTA V single player DLC as well as mission names. Assets include locations like a spaceship with space suits, an Arab mansion and a huge underground area.
• Very early GTA V dialogue that was fully recorded.
• GTA V beta vehicles, including the police car seen in the original trailer.

Given that GTA 5 was originally developed for the outgoing generation of consoles—the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360—it’s no surprise Rockstar had to cut a significant amount of content, as the consoles’ processing power simply wasn’t sufficient to bring everything they had envisioned to life. This summer, former Rockstar Games producer John Ricchio stated in an interview the studio removed entire levels and finished mini-games from GTA 5 in order to meet the game’s release deadline. Incidentally, the game also recently celebrated its 13th anniversary.
