Remedy Might Be Teasing a New Alan Wake Game
Next week, Remedy Entertainment will release its new game, Control Resonant, a sequel to the original title released in 2019. However, there is already speculation the studio might be working on a sequel to another of its well-known franchises.
As spotted by Insider Gaming, it turned out Remedy had renewed the ‘Alan Wake Returns’ trademark, just as it had in 2016, which sparked rumors of an imminent announcement of a sequel—in the end, the game had been in development for quite some time and wasn’t unveiled until 2021. But returning to the renewed trademark, it lists the following classifications: class 016 (printed material) and 025 (clothing), class 041 (multimedia services), and class 09 (computer gaming software). There is speculation this is also related to the upcoming TV series based on Alan Wake and Control, which Remedy is producing in collaboration with Annapurna, but it’s possible the developers are already in the early stages of making a third installment in the writer-centric franchise.
Remedy has renewed the trademark for “Alan Wake Returns” with minor changes
These small changes might lead to something related to a potential new game, especially since they recently made a partnership with Annapurna to bring both Alan Wake and CONTROL to the big screens with film adaptations.
This brand refresh seems particularly interesting in light of the upcoming release of Control Resonant. As is well known, the events of Control and Alan Wake take place in the same universe, and Alan Wake 2 featured several key characters who had previously appeared in Control; meanwhile, in the DLC called The Lake House, we even saw a teaser for Control Resonant featuring Dylan, the game’s protagonist, long before the game was announced. It’s possible that Alan Wake himself might appear in Control Resonant or, at the very least, the events of Alan Wake 2 could be mentioned via various documents.
As for Control Resonant specifically, Remedy revealed the sequel’s final system requirements last week and shared some gameplay details. The game is set to launch on September 25 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.
