New Cancelled Star Wars Video Game Surfaced—Project Magellan

Even though Star Wars is one of the biggest, most popular franchises in film history, it hasn't found the same success in gaming. That's largely because several promising Star Wars games ended up canceled over the years, and now word has surfaced of yet another one that, at first glance, sounds genuinely appealing.

A new report from MP1st has revealed that Project Magellan, a multiplayer action RPG, was once in development at Echtra Games, the studio behind Torchlight III. MP1st published previously unseen gameplay footage and a wealth of new details. The leaked footage shows the developers were building toward co-op adventure and firefights, with a style reminiscent of Star Wars: Hunters. According to the source, players in Star Wars: Magellan would have raided Imperial bases, hacked into their comms systems, and hunted down hidden cargo. The game had at least two classes: the Triggerman, a Mandalorian using a jetpack and firearms, and the Cleric, a female Jedi. Together, they would face off against Imperial stormtroopers, droids, and various creatures from across the galaxy. Beyond the shootouts and action, Echtra Games also planned a relationship system letting players interact with NPCs, with those relationships shaping the story. The game was ultimately canceled in 2025 when Zynga, owned by Take-Two Interactive, shut down Echtra Games, adding one more name to the growing list of Star Wars games that never made it out.

At the moment, there are still several Star Wars games in development across different studios. One is the Knights of the Old Republic remake, announced back in 2021, with hopes it could resurface this year. Despite ongoing internal turmoil, Quantic Dream is also still working on Star Wars: Eclipse, also announced in 2021. There's also Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, a new RPG from Casey Hudson, director of the original KOTOR and the Mass Effect trilogy, and Star Wars: Galactic Racer from Fuse Games is confirmed for October. Rumor also has it Respawn is working on a new Star Wars Jedi entry, based on recent job listings at the studio, though EA hasn't confirmed anything officially yet.
