Pearl Abyss Released New Update for Crimson Desert – Patch Notes Version 1.18.00

Pearl Abyss has revealed a new update for its RPG, Crimson Desert, titled Patch Notes Version 1.18.00. Once again, this update doesn't bring new content—instead, the developers focused on fixing a number of technical issues and slightly reworked the quest knowledge system, splitting it into subcategories.

The main highlight of Patch Version 1.18.00 is the division of quests into eight categories: Main Quests, Faction Quests, Investigation Quests, Research Quests, Daily Life Quests, Guide, Archive Records, and Constellations. The developers have also added the ability to rotate the camera while targeting an enemy, and players can now equip their horse with gear at stables. You can check out more details on Patch Version 1.18.00 below:

  • Added "Quests" as a new knowledge category. The new category consits of 8 sub-categories: Main Quests, Faction Quests, Investigation Quests, Research Quests, Daily Life Quests, Guide, Archive Records, Constellations. Certain quest knowledge entries will be granted retroactively if the corresponding quest has already been completed.
  • Changed the resource required for research from silvers to camp funds.
  • Improved the knowledge system so that knowledge of certain animals can be gained by picking them up, instead of killing them.
  • Improved the stable so that horse gear can now be equipped there.
  • Added new options for "Lock-on Camera Rotation". It’s under Input in the game setting now has three options: manual, semi-auto, auto., whereas the previous options were enabled and disabled.
  • Improved the map so that areas revealed by ringing the bell can be visually distinguished from areas explored directly.
  • Fixed various localization errors and improved localization quality across all languages.

Pearl Abyss also recently released a full trailer showing how Crimson Desert has evolved since launching this March, and it's one of the more striking transformations in the gaming industry this year. It’s also worth noting that DLC for the game is in the works, confirmed for release sometime this year, though the exact date and further details remain unknown for now.

Another interesting data point concerns completion rates. Despite half a year having passed since launch, only around 10% of Steam players have finished the main story of Crimson Desert so far. That figure's a bit higher on Xbox Series X/S (13%) and PlayStation (15.2%), but given that the main story reportedly takes nearly 70 hours to complete, according to HowLongToBeat, and that it’s arguably the game's weakest aspect, these numbers aren't all that surprising.
