Aspyr Media Announced The Lord of the Rings: War in the North - Legacy Edition – It’s Available Now

Earlier this month, rumors began to circulate that The Lord of the Rings: War in the North, released in 2011, would soon be getting an updated version —and these rumors were not unfounded but based on files discovered on SteamDB. Indeed, this has now come to pass—what's more, the game is already available to most players.

Aspyr Media has officially announced The Lord of the Rings: War in the North Legacy Edition —a re-release of the original game developed by Snowblind Studios. The game is a co-op role-playing game, and the developers have retained all its best features—it can be played both online and in split-screen mode. The game now features 46 achievements, support for 4K resolution, and 60 FPS.

Let this be the hour when we draw swords together! The Lord of the Rings: War in the North™ Legacy Edition has returned, now on all platforms. Available Now for Playstation, Xbox, Steam, Nintendo Switch 1 & 2 (available for Nintendo of Europe August 18).

In terms of its story, War in the North events take place in parallel with The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring movie, but in the northern lands of Middle-earth. Players take on the roles of three completely different characters—Eradan (a Ranger), Farin (a Dwarf), and Andriel (an Elf)—to oppose Agandaûr, a servant of Sauron who is gathering an army in the region of Fornost Erain. The game received positive reviews at the time for its well-developed co-op mode, combat system, atmosphere, and significant expansion of the lore, so the release of this remastered edition is an excellent opportunity to embark on a journey through Middle-earth once again.

It is also known that another game set in Middle-earth is currently in development—Warhorse Studios, the developers of the Kingdom Come: Deliverance franchise, are in charge of it. Not many details are available at the moment, but the developers have confirmed that it will be a narrative adventure RPG set in an open world.
