Another Fallout Video Game Might Be In Development by inXile Entertainment

Last month brought Fallout fans a wave of exciting news about the franchise's future. Not only did it come out that Obsidian Entertainment—the studio behind Fallout: New Vegas—is working on a new title, but Bethesda also shared its own plans. It was officially confirmed Fallout 5 is in pre-production, alongside enhanced versions of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas. However, that might not be the whole story, as another studio could also be involved in the expanding of the Fallout universe.

We're talking about inXile Entertainment, the studio currently developing its ambitious Xbox exclusive, Clockwork Revolution, set for release in 2027. During a recent conversation with Deykon Dykes, well-known gaming insider and Windows Central editor Jez Corden revealed inXile is already thinking about its next project that could be related to the Fallout universe. Given that studio founder Brian Fargo was one of Fallout's original creators, that's not surprising at all—but for now, you should take it as a rumor. You can check out Corden's full quote below:

“We know inXile's working on Clockwork Revolution, but they're already incubating the next project...and I've heard some interesting rumors that that could potentially be Fallout-adjacent as well.”

inXile Entertainment hasn't given any comments on this case yet, as the studio is currently focused on Clockwork Revolution. The game got plenty of attention at the Xbox Games Showcase this June, where the developers showed off new gameplay footage and shared a lot of details. In Clockwork Revolution, you use a device called the Chronometer to travel back in time and alter certain events. By returning to the present, you will find the timeline has been rewritten, creating a butterfly effect that directly shapes not just the story but the world around. Between that concept and inXile's legacy, Clockwork Revolution stands out as one of the most intriguing games coming in 2027.

As for future Fallout titles, no specific details on Fallout 5, currently in development at Bethesda Game Studios, have surfaced yet. Studio head Todd Howard has previously teased the fifth entry might have ties to the Fallout TV series being produced for Amazon Prime Video. Regarding the new Fallout game from Obsidian, Jez Corden previously reported it will be a full-fledged entry similar in scope to Fallout: New Vegas and even floated the idea it could be titled something like Fallout: Chicago.

Clockwork Revolution, inXile’s next project, will release in 2027 for PC and Xbox Series X/S.
