Bethesda Confirmed Fallout 5 Is In Pre-Production and Announced Remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas

After a major restructuring at Xbox carried out by Microsoft earlier this month, Bethesda Game Studios was among the many affected. Nevertheless, the studio's upcoming projects remain priorities, and in a new statement, Bethesda revealed further details about one of its key franchises—Fallout—making several important announcements.

As you may know, it was recently announced that Obsidian Entertainment, the developers of 2010's Fallout: New Vegas, are working on a new game in the series. Many fans took this to mean it could be Fallout 5, which was previously being developed by Bethesda Game Studios. However, this is not the case, as Bethesda has confirmed they are officially working on the fifth installment of the franchise, which is currently in pre-production. Furthermore, the company confirmed previous rumors about remastered versions of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, though no additional details were revealed. You can check out Bethesda's official statement about the future of the Fallout game series below:

“Fallout is one of our biggest priorities today. Fallout 5 remains our long-range destination, and we have multiple Fallout projects in active development right now.

We also know many players want to revisit previous Fallout experiences. While we're not announcing any dates today, we have been working on remasters for both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas. Fallout 5 is currently in preproduction on Creation Engine 3, a shared technology platform we've been building since Starfield's launch. It allows our teams to support multiple projects simultaneously with new tools, rendering, and systems that define our games.”

In addition, the studio confirmed that Fallout 76 will receive a new update—Raven Rock—which serves as a prequel to Fallout 3. They also announced that sales of the fourth installment have reached 35 million copies sold, more than 10 years after its release. Bethesda proudly shared that Fallout Shelter has attracted over 250 million players worldwide and reminded fans that a TV series based on the game is currently in development in collaboration with Amazon Studios and Kilter Films.

Despite recent studio layoffs, Bethesda Game Studios' plans for expanding the Fallout universe are more ambitious than ever. Fans are undoubtedly excited, as the coming years promise multiple releases across the franchise—from remastered editions of classics like Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas to entirely new games. These new titles are expected to differ from one another, since they are being developed by different studios, each bringing its own unique perspective and vision to the Fallout world.
