First Details About the New Fallout Installment from Obsidian Entertainment Revealed
This week brought news about what's next for the Fallout franchise; specifically, it was confirmed that a new installment in the series is in the works, with Obsidian Entertainment, the developers of 2010's Fallout: New Vegas, responsible for it. While the studio has yet to reveal any details about the upcoming title, a well-known insider has shared some insights into what the game might look like.
This is about Jez Corden, Windows Central editor, who recently appeared on the latest episode of the podcast The Xbox Reset on Rand al Thor 19. During the discussion, he was asked what the new Fallout from Obsidian could be like, and Corden confirmed that it wouldn't be a spin-off or an isometric game like the first two installments in the series. The insider also doesn't rule out the possibility that the project could be the much-anticipated Fallout 5, which Bethesda Game Studios may have been working on previously. However, he notes it might also not be a numbered installment but rather a titled game—similar to the aforementioned New Vegas, released in 2010. You can check out a more detailed description from Jez Corden below:
“I’ve heard that it’s not isometric. It is like a real Fallout game, like the modern Fallout games. I’ve not heard it’s like tactics. I’ve not heard it’s a spin-off. I’ve not heard it’s like an action Fallout. I’ve heard this is a true core Fallout game. So, you know, maybe it is Fallout 5. I imagine it won’t be called Fallout 5. It will probably be called, like, I don’t know, Fallout Chicago or something like that. New Chicago. Would you like a Fallout game in Chicago?”
The idea that Obsidian Entertainment is working on a new Fallout video game sounds really intriguing. And now, thanks to Corden's comments, we can see that this will be a fully-fledged entry in the franchise, made in the best tradition of the series. After all, a lot of fans consider Fallout: New Vegas the best game in the series, thanks to its deep RPG system, freedom of choice, and memorable quests.
It is also worth noting that former Obsidian head Chris Avellone recently stated that the studio wanted to make a new Fallout installment and pitched the idea to Bethesda— but the studio always refused. So far, Bethesda Game Studios has made no official statements regarding whether Fallout 5 is currently in development or whether the project has been transferred to Obsidian Entertainment. At the same time, it is believed that the studio is working on remakes of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas; neither project has been officially confirmed yet, but insider Jeff Gerstmann recently claimed to have seen footage of the Fallout 3 remake, and insider NateTheHate has also confirmed that an enhanced version of Fallout: New Vegas is in development.
As for the new Fallout title being developed by Obsidian Entertainment, the release date and platforms remain unknown.
