Jeff Gerstmann Has Seen the Footage of Fallout 3 Remake, Which Is at an Advanced Development Stage

Rumors have been circulating for a while that Bethesda Game Studios is working on a Fallout 3 remake. However, the project reportedly remains far from finished and has yet to be officially confirmed. At the same time, well-known insider Jeff Gerstmann has decided to add fuel to the fire by confirming the remake's existence and sharing a few minor details.

During a recent episode of The Jeff Gerstmann Show, the insider revealed that he had already seen the first footage of the Fallout 3 remake and mentioned that the developers have made significant progress on it. However, he did not provide any information about the release date, and said he doesn't know whether the project is still ongoing or has been canceled. You can check out Gerstmann's full quote from the video below:

“In fact, someone else has put in quite a lot of work into a Fallout 3 remake that has yet to officially materialize. And I don't even know if that game is, I assume that that is still happening, but maybe it is dead. Who can say? But I have seen footage of a Fallout 3 remake, so someone somewhere made something.”

Previously, Windows Central editor Jez Corden stated that the Fallout 3 remake is reportedly scheduled for release in 2027, meaning a potential announcement could happen sometime this year. At the same time, Todd Howard previously teased that Bethesda will continue to use the shadow-drop release strategy, as was the case with the remastered version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, which was officially announced and launched on April 22, 2025. There is a possibility that a similar approach will be taken with the Fallout 3 remake.

In addition to the Fallout 3 remake, the studio is also working on a new, enhanced version of Fallout: New Vegas, which was confirmed by insider NateTheHate. Furthermore, on July 8, Bloomberg confirmed that Obsidian is officially developing a new Fallout installment, and that the studio even had to cancel Avowed 2 and pause work on its current projects. The new game will be led by Josh Sawyer, a game designer who played a key role in the development of Fallout: New Vegas.
