Gamers Are Pushing Ubisoft to Make Assassin's Creed Black Flag 2 Following the Remake's Success

The remake of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, released earlier this month as Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, has shown that Ubisoft is still capable of producing high-quality products—something the studio hasn't always managed lately, especially within this franchise. Enhanced graphics, new content, and a bunch of other great additions have given it the feel of a genuine, proper remake, and now fans think Black Flag deserves an official sequel.

A heated discussion about Assassin's Creed Black Flag 2 has broken out among fans on ResetEra, and a poll there shows over 60% of players support the idea. That said, it doesn't necessarily need to continue Edward Kenway's story—players point out the Golden Age of Piracy offers plenty of other stories worth telling, as long as the game keeps everything that made the original Black Flag and Black Flag Resynced great: thrilling naval battles and free exploration of the open seas. There's also regular talk about the remake of Freedom Cry, the standalone expansion for the original game featuring Adewale, which fans think could further expand the remakes' shared universe.

It's also worth noting that in a recent interview, Black Flag Resynced game director Richard Knight teased the game might get a story DLC in the future, which will tell more about Edward Kenway's story, though he didn't mention when that might happen. Ubisoft has already hinted at a remake of the very first Assassin's Creed—especially given CFO Frédérick Duguet's recent comments about remakes generating strong revenue at lower cost, which plenty of people took as a sign more Assassin's Creed remakes are on the way.

Nevertheless, for now, this is still just speculation. As for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced itself, the game keeps performing well on the charts: Ubisoft has confirmed the game sold 3.5 million copies across all platforms in its first 14 days, and it remains the highest-rated game in the franchise's 13-year history. Black Flag Resynced also includes a teaser for Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe —the next mainline entry in the series, announced back in 2022.
