Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Has a Possible Teaser for Franchise's Next Title - Codename Hexe

This week marked the release of Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced—the franchise's first-ever remake—which has already sold over 2 million copies in its first 24 hours. The game has also received positive reviews from the gaming press, making it the highest-rated entry in the series since 2013. Additionally, some attentive fans may have spotted a potential teaser for the next mainline installment in the series, Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe, announced back in 2022.

As spotted by TheRAFITI69 on X, the Animus files in Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced contain several references to previous entries in the franchise (Origins, Odyssey, Valhalla, Mirage, and Shadows), such as buildings from those eras. Among them, however, the user spotted a mysterious cathedral; he suggested it might be Würzburg Cathedral, but other users in the comments clarified that the building looks more like St. Lorenz in Nuremberg. This could potentially be a new teaser for Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe, which is set in 16th-century Germany during the Holy Roman Empire.

By the way, here we can see references to (from right to left)

  • Origins
  • Valhalla
  • Mirage
  • Shadows
  • Odyssey

And… the cathedral? Gothic style, everything points to Hexe, and it would be the first OFFICIAL TEASER after the announcement in 2022.

This can be seen in the last rift.

As of now, we don't know much about Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe. Besides the confirmed setting—16th-century Germany during the Holy Roman Empire—according to leaks, the game will feature a female protagonist named Anika, who is believed to be a descendant of Claudia Auditore, Ezio's sister. Additionally, with Jean Guesdon stepping in as creative director for Codename Hexe earlier this year, all magical elements have reportedly been removed, making the game more grounded and realistic. The release date for Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe remains unknown, but according to reliable Ubisoft insider Rogue, the studio is aiming for a launch next June —though this could be delayed due to problematic development. Moreover, a recent rumor suggests that Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe might be showcased at Gamescom 2026, which will take place next month in Germany—the very country where the game's story takes place.

Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe is in development for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, with its release date remaining unknown. Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced is available now on the same platforms.
