GTA 6 Might Include Previously Cut Content from Older Rockstar Games’ Titles
No one doubts GTA 6, the most anticipated video game of 2026, will also be Rockstar Games’ biggest project yet, with every chance of becoming the most detailed, thoroughly developed game in history. Unfortunately, with less than four months to go before release, the studio still is not rushing to share new details or release a new trailer—but fans keep hoping that changes soon.
From what we already know, GTA 6 will bring elements never seen before in the franchise: a female protagonist, the ability to enter nearly every building (each with a unique interior), and a more advanced NPC system than Red Dead Redemption 2, where every character will genuinely feel "alive" and react to events unfolding around them. Additionally, a former Rockstar Games producer also speculated that GTA 6 might reuse previously cut concepts, not just from earlier franchise entries but from entirely different Rockstar titles as well.
That statement came from John Ricchio, one of GTA 5's producers, who also worked on Red Dead Redemption and Max Payne 3. He recently spoke with Kiwi Talkz about how Rockstar Games approaches reusing cut content. As an example, he pointed to GTA IV, where the developers pulled in several missions from a canceled, unannounced game. He didn't rule out something similar happening with GTA 6, as you can check out in his comments below:
“So there's the notion like, 'Hey, this idea is cool. We should keep this idea going.' I think that 100% happens. But when it comes to actually, like, lifting scripting or a code into a new game, that depends a lot on how much the tech has changed.
In a lot of cases, there's almost never – you're usually not limited by ideas, right? Like there's always tons of ideas. The more creative folks you got, you got tons of ideas. I haven't seen a huge need to go back and pull from old stuff unless something was just really cool and people really want to bring the idea forward.”
During the interview, while discussing cut content, Ricchio also revealed Rockstar Games had to remove a lot of features from GTA 5, including "entire levels" and "fully finished minigames," simply because they demanded too much time and resources. He also claimed he thinks GTA 6 will be "monstrous" in terms of attention to detail. Meanwhile, in a separate interview with Reforge Gaming, Kiwi Talkz teased that the duration of the upcoming sixth installment will be “very, very long.”
