2026 FIFA World Cup Final Is Almost Here—And Still No Sign of GTA 6 Marketing

Summer 2026 is in full swing—which is more than can be said for the marketing campaign for Grand Theft Auto VI, the most anticipated video game of 2026. After Rockstar Games opened pre-orders at the end of last month, fans thought the developers were finally ready to show new footage. That still hasn't happened, and plenty of players are clearly frustrated by this fact.

With exactly four months left until the game’s release, along with a handful of other factors, players have gone back to an interview Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive (Rockstar Games’ parent company), gave to Variety on May 21 —the same day as the company's earnings call, when many expected to see new GTA 6 footage. In that interview, Zelnick talked about the game's marketing campaign, saying:

“So, the next few weeks I don’t think it’ll be summertime yet, but when it’s summertime, Rockstar expects to start marketing GTA 6”.

Almost a month into summer, and apart from opening pre-orders for GTA 6, Rockstar Games still hasn't revealed anything new—something that's clearly starting to disappoint fans.

The timing is also a bit curious given that today, July 19, marks the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup—an event set that will attract millions of fans and viewers worldwide. Back in May, shortly before Take-Two's earnings call, there were rumors Rockstar Games might use the event to promote GTA 6. That didn't happen throughout the tournament, and it's genuinely unclear whether it'll happen today either—before, during, or shortly after the final.

Still, recent rumors—allegedly from a Rockstar insider—suggest a new GTA 6 trailer could drop in the coming days, possibly timed to the World Cup final, and that's giving fans some fresh hope. Even if it doesn't happen, Take-Two Interactive's next earnings call is set for August 7, and those calls almost always come with some new information about GTA 6 and Rockstar Games’ other projects. It is also worth remembering that insider Tom Henderson had previously teased that a new GTA 6 trailer could also be revealed in August.
