Bethesda Will Continue to Develop Starfield as the Game Attracted 17 Million Players
Despite its controversial launch in 2023 and the fact that Starfield didn't quite meet fans' expectations or become Bethesda’s "next big thing", the game received a major Free Lanes update this year alongside its PlayStation 5 release. This update introduced a bunch of new features, allowing players to experience the game in a fresh way—and, as a result, received a lot of positive feedback. It seems that Bethesda isn't ready to call it quits on Starfield just yet.
Recently, Bethesda released a new statement about the studio's upcoming projects following Microsoft's restructuring of the Xbox division earlier this month, which affected Bethesda among others. The statement also mentions Starfield, confirming that the studio will continue to support the game by releasing new content featuring fresh stories, gameplay improvements, and other updates. You can check out Bethesda's official announcement about the ongoing support for Starfield below:
“With over 17 million players logging almost a billion hours to date, Starfield remains an important part of our future. As we enter Year 3, we'll continue expanding the Settled Systems with new stories, targeted gameplay improvements, and additional updates, while preparing for the launch of new Starborn content next year. More than 40% of players already customize their experience through Creations, and we'll continue investing in creators and giving players new ways to make Starfield their own.
Across Bethesda Game Studios, we're building for the future of Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, and Starfield. We're investing in our technology, bringing teams closer together, supporting our live games, expanding into new forms of entertainment, and developing the next generation of Bethesda RPGs.”
Speaking about the Fallout and the Elder Scrolls franchises, Bethesda also made several important announcements. Specifically, it was revealed that Fallout 5 is currently in pre-production, and the studio officially confirmed work on Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas remasters. Earlier this month, it also became known that Obsidian Entertainment is developing a separate project set within the Fallout universe.
As for The Elder Scrolls VI, Bethesda stated that the game is the studio's top priority at the moment. Beyond that, no further information was shared about the title that was first announced eight years ago.
Speaking of Starfield, the game recently received an official rating for the Switch 2 version, but Bethesda hasn’t confirmed its release to Nintendo’s platform. The game is currently available on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.
