4A Games Confirmed Metro 2023 Will Be Playable at Gamescom 2026

Gamescom 2026, one of the biggest gaming events of the year, kicks off in Germany in just a month, and more studios keep confirming their lineups. This time, Ukrainian studio 4A Games has announced its presence, bringing a playable demo of Metro 2039, the new shooter in the popular franchise.

On social media, 4A Games confirmed the studio will attend Gamescom 2026 next month, and a demo of Metro 2039 will be available for visitors. The developers are also expected to reveal new details about the game, including story elements.

Last month, during the Xbox Games Showcase, 4A Games dropped a new trailer for Metro 2039 and confirmed the game will launch next February. The exact release date is still unknown, though—who knows, maybe Gamescom 2026 is the place where it will be finally unveiled.

Metro 2039 is set in moscow in the year 2039, after the events of Metro Exodus, and returns to the franchise's roots by focusing on gameplay in enclosed spaces like tunnels and catacombs. The game introduces a brand-new playable character, Stranger, who fights against an authoritarian neo-Nazi movement called the Novoreich, led by its Führer—the legendary Spartan Hunter. The game has also earned praise from Dmitry Glukhovsky, author of the Metro books, who's involved in the game's development as one of its writers.

Metro 2039 will release next February on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.
