New Metro 2039 Trailer Confirms Game Will Release Next February

The recent Xbox Games Showcase not only delivered a slew of announcements to gamers but also offered a fresh look at the gameplay of previously known titles. One standout was the new game from 4A Games, Metro 2039, which also received confirmation of its release date.

The new trailer for Metro 2039 focuses primarily on the game's storyline and its main antagonist—Hunter, a key character in the Metro universe who also appeared in Metro 2033 and was referenced in Metro: Last Light and Metro Exodus. In this upcoming game, Hunter takes on a new identity, calling himself the Führer and leading a totalitarian faction known as the Novoreich. You can check out the new Metro 2039 trailer below:

Gameplay footage of Metro 2039 confirms that the game is returning to its roots as a corridor shooter, but the trailer also showcases battles in more open locations. The improved graphics are hard to miss, with enhanced detail and other visual effects. 4A Games has also confirmed that Metro 2039 will be released in February 2027, although the exact release date is still unknown.

The events of Metro 2039 are taking place in 2039's moscow, after the events of Metro Exodus, and returning to the franchise's roots, focusing on gameplay in enclosed spaces, including tunnels and catacombs. The game will feature a brand-new playable character called Stranger, who fights against an authoritarian neo-Nazi movement called the Novoreich, led by their Fuhrer—the legendary Spartan, Hunter.

You can also check out everything that was announced and revealed at the Xbox Games Showcase 2026.
