Rockstar Games Teasing GTA 6 Will Not Feature Multiplayer Mode at Launch

Building anticipation for the launch of GTA 6 pre-orders, Rockstar Games has released a wealth of new information about the most anticipated video game of 2026. They revealed the contents of the Ultimate Edition, pre-order bonuses, and the pricing details for both the Standard and Ultimate editions. While there's no new game trailer yet, attentive fans have already started combing through the released materials, uncovering intriguing details—one of which involves GTA 6’s multiplayer features.

On the official GTA 6 page on PlayStation, there is a dedicated section for frequently asked questions. One of these questions addresses whether the game will have a multiplayer mode similar to GTA Online in GTA 5. However, the page clearly states: "Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player experience." Reddit users have pointed out that this suggests the GTA Online mode for GTA 6 might be sold separately and released sometime after the original game launches. Previously, insider information had emerged indicating that Rockstar Games plans to roll out an online service for GTA 6 about a month after the game's release, and this appears to be the studio's current plan. So far, no official confirmation has been made public.

Playstation's GTA6 Q&A could imply that the next iteration of GTA Online could be sold separetely or at least not included with GTA6.

So yeah seeing how everything unfolded today i wouldn't be surprised if the online was to be a standalone but maybe they only are talking about the game at launch so of course take it with a grain of salt till it's cleared from R* side.

Edit: On the game's page now it's mentioned 1player only, so online is most likely separate.

Among the other details revealed today, Rockstar Games announced pre-order bonuses for GTA 6 that include items inspired by the original GTA: Vice City. They also confirmed that pre-orders will begin on June 25 at midnight local time. Additionally, it was disclosed that physical copies of the game will not include discs —instead, buyers will receive a code to download the product.
