Maybe Next Time: 10 Missing Announcements from State of Play, SGF & Xbox Showcase
Last week saw three major gaming presentations: Sony's State of Play, Microsoft's Xbox Games Showcase, and the Summer Game Fest. Altogether, more than 20 new projects were confirmed, including Persona 6, God of War Laufey, Resident Evil Veronica, TMNT: The Last Ronin, Crazy Taxi: World Tour, Until Dawn 2, and many others. However, some gamers were disappointed that certain long-rumored games were not officially confirmed, nor were there new updates on already announced projects in need of fresh information. Below, you'll find 10 titles that fans had been eagerly awaiting to see last week but ultimately did not appear.
Hogwarts Legacy 2
Hogwarts Legacy 2 has been in development since at least September 2024, when it was officially announced. In the lead-up to various gaming events, several insiders suggested that the game would be revealed during a State of Play presentation, similar to how the first installment was introduced. Other rumors, sharing various details about the game, pointed to an announcement at Summer Game Fest; however, Hogwarts Legacy 2 was never showcased there. Considering earlier speculation that the sequel is expected to release in 2027, coinciding roughly with the new Harry Potter series from HBO, it's likely that the official announcement is still a short way off. Nevertheless, Warner Bros. Games and Avalanche Studios apparently aren't ready to reveal the game just yet.
Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet

Just like Hogwarts Legacy 2, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet—a new exclusive from Naughty Dog—was first revealed about two and a half years ago at The Game Awards 2024. Since then, official details about the game have been scarce, but there have been rumors suggesting a 2027 release. Although the studio hasn’t commented on the release date, fans are growing concerned due to the long silence surrounding the game, especially since State of Play didn't showcase anything related to this new IP from the creators of The Last of Us.
Injustice 3

Many were also eagerly anticipating the reveal of a new fighting game from NetherRealm Studios, Injustice 3, which has reportedly been in development for a long time and is supposedly in its final stages. However, despite a recent leak that essentially confirmed the project through a resume from a Warner Bros. employee, Ed Boon has remained silent about Injustice 3. In fact, he has instead confirmed that work is underway on a new Mortal Kombat installment.
Resident Evil Requiem Story DLC
As expected, during Summer Game Fest, Capcom confirmed they are working on a remake of Resident Evil Code: Veronica, titled Resident Evil Veronica, set to release in 2027. Additionally, they announced the release date for Onimusha: Way of the Sword during State of Play but revealed nothing about the story DLC for Resident Evil Requiem, which came as a surprise to many. Nevertheless, development on the expansion is still ongoing, and the studio will likely have some surprises to unveil at a later date.
The Witcher 4
At the end of last month, CD Projekt RED threw a genuine celebration for all fans of The Witcher franchise by announcing a new DLC for the third installment titled Songs of the Past. As expected, and previously rumored, this DLC will lay the groundwork for the upcoming fourth installment. Speaking of The Witcher 4, official details have been scarce for a long time, and fans had hoped that following the Songs of the Past announcement, the Polish studio would pick up even more momentum. Unfortunately, that hasn't happened; however, CD Projekt RED has officially confirmed their attendance at Gamescom 2026, where they will reveal details about the new DLC for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and, hopefully, about The Witcher 4 as well.
Max Payne 1&2

As you may know, Remedy Entertainment is working on their next project—Control Resonant—which is their most ambitious game to date. During the recent State of Play, a new gameplay trailer was revealed to announce the release date. However, some fans had hoped the studio would also showcase a teaser for the upcoming Max Payne 1 & 2 remakes. It's known that the remakes have recently entered full development, and a teaser featuring the iconic soundtrack from the original games would undoubtedly have given gamers goosebumps. Nevertheless, it seems Remedy wants to focus their marketing efforts on Control Resonant for now, especially since the game is set to launch this September. Afterward, they plan to shift their attention to Max Payne 1 & 2, which is scheduled for release next year.
Fallout 3 Remake and Wolfenstein 3

Bethesda made several announcements last week, mainly focusing on new content for Fallout 76—the Infestations expansion, a DLC for Doom: The Dark Ages called Revelations, and updates for The Elder Scrolls Online. Earlier this year, there were rumors that the studio is actively working on a remake of Fallout 3 and that MachineGames, a Bethesda-owned studio, is developing the third installment of Wolfenstein. However, it seems they are still far from ready to showcase these projects to the public or discuss a potential release date.
Star Wars: Jedi 3
Shortly before Summer Game Fest, reliable insider Tom Henderson revealed new details about Star Wars: Jedi 3 and teased that the game might be showcased at Summer Game Fest. Previously, Lucasfilm themselves stated that "many stories lie ahead" centered on the franchise's main character, Cal Kestis, although the game has yet to be officially confirmed. So far, neither Electronic Arts nor Respawn Entertainment has responded to the rumors about the trilogy's third installment.
GTA 6
Of course, few expected Rockstar Games to reveal GTA 6 at Summer Game Fest, State of Play, or especially the Xbox Games Showcase. However, amid rumors last month about the start of the game's pre-orders, insiders reported that Sony and Take-Two had some kind of agreement allowing GTA 6 to appear at Sony’s presentation. It seems those were just rumors, as Rockstar Games doesn’t need any platform to showcase the most anticipated game of 2026.
