First Gameplay, System Requirements, and Pre-Order Details Revealed for Gears of War: E-Day

A variety of upcoming Xbox projects were revealed during the Xbox Games Showcase presentation. The event kicked off with an upcoming title from The Coalition studio—Gears of War: E-Day—which debuted its first gameplay trailer. Following this, detailed information about pre-orders, bonuses, and much more was shared during a dedicated show titled Gears of War: E-Day Direct.

As we know, Gears of War: E-Day will serve as a prequel to the original 2007 game, showcasing the early years of Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago as they first confront the hordes of the Locust. The first gameplay trailer for the new installment adopts the classic Gears of War style—featuring intense combat, plenty of blood, shootouts, and brutal finishing moves. In this regard, E-Day doesn't stray far from its predecessors, yet the game still manages to generate a fair amount of interest. You can watch over seven minutes of Gears of War: E-Day gameplay below:

After the Xbox Games Showcase concluded, the game received a dedicated presentation called Gears of War: E-Day Direct, where more details about the upcoming project were revealed. In particular, those who pre-order will gain access to a beta test scheduled for August 6, along with various bonuses such as new skins, weapons, player emotes, and in-game currency. The Coalition also confirmed that Gears of War: E-Day will feature not only the classic 4v4 PvP mode but also a new mode titled Horde Siege —a 12-player PvE mode where three squads defend Kalona across expansive city maps. Perhaps the most interesting aspect of Gears of War: E-Day concerns the platforms on which the game will be released. Shortly before the Xbox Games Showcase, news surfaced that the PlayStation 5 version of Gears of War: E-Day had been cancelled in favor of making it an Xbox exclusive. In fact, soon after the first gameplay reveal, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma confirmed the game's exclusive status. Meanwhile, gaming journalist Jeff Grubb, who was the first to break the news about the PS5 version's cancellation, revealed that the game is actually finished for PlayStation 5, but what Microsoft plans to do with it remains a mystery. Nevertheless, other upcoming projects from the studio, such as Halo: Campaign Evolved and Fable, are still set to launch on Sony's console.

Among other news, Gears of War: E-Day has received further praise from the series creator, Cliff Bleszinski, who had previously spoken positively about the new project from The Coalition. On his X page, he wrote the following:

SO yeah, E-day looks great, amazing feature set, great tech improvements - and, most importantly - looks like it has heart.

On top of all sorts of insane violence and destruction.

Now get off my fucking lawn already!
