Gears of War: E-Day Reportedly Cancelled for PlayStation 5—Decision Was Made by Xbox CEO Asha Sharma

Already today, as part of Gears of War: E-Day Direct, which will take place soon after the Xbox Games Showcase, we will learn new details about the upcoming Gears of War: E-Day from The Coalition studio, and most likely, the game's release date, which remains unknown, will also be revealed.

Against the backdrop of fans' expectations, some curious information has also emerged. According to insider Jeff Grubb during t he Giant Bomb live stream, Xbox had planned to release Gears of War: E-Day for the PlayStation 5, but at the last moment a decision was made to cancel the game's version; moreover, this decision was made by the CEO of Xbox, Asha Sharma. Grubb also added that Sharma could have made such a decision in favor of the exclusivity of her projects; nevertheless, the upcoming shooter Halo: Campaign Evolved is still listed on the release calendar for the Sony platform.

Gears of War: E-Day is a prequel to the whole Gears of War saga, as it takes place 14 years before the original title, where we will see the first days of Emergence Day and focus on Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago. Netflix is also developing an adaptation of the game series, directed by David Leitch (Bullet Train, The Fall Guy, Atomic Blonde), which is still in development after the initial announcement in 2022.
