Forza Horizon 6 Is the Highest-Rated Video Game of 2026—But Steam Users Disagree
Forza Horizon 6, the latest installment from Playground Games, has become available on PC and Xbox Series X/S - but, for now, this is only available to Premium Edition users. Recently, gaming media outlets also published their reviews, which, as expected, were quite high. Furthermore, Forza Horizon 6 currently holds the title of the highest-rated game of the year.
This was revealed by Metacritic, which ranks Forza Horizon 6 in first place with a score of 92 out of 100, placing it ahead of titles such as Pokémon Pokopia (89), Resident Evil Requiem (89), Mewgenics (88), Saros (87), and more. The site also awarded the new Playground Games title a 'Must-Play' badge, confirming its status as one of the best games of the year.
Critics unanimously praised Forza Horizon 6 for its impressive map, car physics, and enhanced graphics, noting that the elaborate weather conditions directly influence gameplay, resulting in a more immersive and realistic experience.
Nevertheless, Steam users appear to disagree with the critical consensus, as the title currently holds a 'Mixed' rating on PC. Player grievances primarily concern the technical state of Forza Horizon 6; despite widespread reports of bugs, glitches, and crashes, developers have confirmed that patches are currently in development. According to SteamDB, the game’s current approval rating sits at just 62%. However, even with access restricted to owners of the Premium Edition, Forza Horizon 6 has already surpassed the previous title's record for peak concurrent players. The current peak concurrent players stands at nearly 173,000, which is more than double the player peak of Forza Horizon 5.
This week, Forza Horizon 6 found itself at the center of a scandal, as the game's files were leaked, resulting in the game being available on pirate sites. Playground Games officially responded to the leak and confirmed that players who downloaded the leaked version of the game will face a ban across the entire franchise, as well as on the hardware.
Forza Horizon 6 takes players to Japan, where Tokyo will be the biggest city in Forza Horizon’s history. The game will include more than 550 vehicles at the start, customization, new racing modes, dynamic changes in weather conditions, the ability to buy houses and decorate garages, and more.
