Rocksteady Studios Is Reportedly Working On a Batman Beyond Video Game

This month, a new game based on DC comics and possibly dedicated to the most popular superhero in the universe, Batman, is coming out - the game by TT Games, LEGO: Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. Nevertheless, another game dedicated to the hero may still be in development—and this is something that many fans have been waiting for a long time.

There are regularly rumors that Rocksteady Studios, the creators of the Batman: Arkham game series, are working on a new game for the franchise. A new leak on 4chan reveals that the studio is indeed developing a new Batman game, and it will be an adaptation of the animated series Batman Beyond. In the storyline, the hero's mantle is passed from Bruce Wayne to Terry McGinnis, and the events take place in 2039, in a futuristic version of Gotham. You can check out the first images of the Batman Beyond video game, which is still likely to be at an early stage of development, below, as well as read the first details of upcoming title:

  • Rocksteady Studios began developing the concept of the game immediately after Warner Bros. Games' plans for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which turned out to be a complete failure, were canceled.
  • The screenshots show last year's build of the game after it moved into the active phase of development. The insider also claims that the images were processed using AI.
  • Game is being developed on the Unreal Engine 5.
  • Paul Dini, the writer of Batman Beyond and Batman: The Animated Series, is attached to the project. He also was a writer of Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City video games. It was Dini’s decision to choose Terry McGinnis as the main character, not Damien Wayne, as was previously rumored.
  • It takes place after Batman: Arkham Knight, with the game’s world looking like Night City from Cyberpunk 2077 rather than a futuristic version of Gotham from the animated series. There are also districts untouched by this aesthetic.
  • Story is very much an adaptation of animated series, where the elder version of Bruce Wayne serves as a mentor to Terry McGinnis; Blight/Derek Powers is the game’s main villain.
  • Batman Beyond video game will use the Nemesis System from Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Middle-earth: Shadow of War. It is claimed that every Nemesis who has been created will eventually become “the right hand of Blight” and possibly the second villain in the game.
  • Terry McGinnis is likely to ride a motorcycle in the game, as was mentioned in the early concept art. Also, the game is likely to include a customization feature.
  • Game is still having a lot of common stuff from previous Batman: Arkham games, but the events are not taking place in one night only.

Although this is not the first time we have heard information about a game based on Batman Beyond from Rocksteady Studios, the information is unconfirmed and at this point should be regarded as a rumor.

As for the abovementioned LEGO: Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, the game was released on May 22 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5 and later this year on Nintendo Switch 2. Recently, the playable version of the game leaked on Xbox.
