Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic Is Developed By Former BioWare Employees
Announced at The Game Awards 2025, Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic was one of the best reveals during the show, and now it’s one of the most anticipated RPG games. The reason might be simple, as Casey Hudson, the director of the original Knights of the Old Republic and Mass Effect trilogy, is in charge of the game and the head of Arcanaut Studios as well.
Fate of the Old Republic is considered a spiritual success of Knight of the Old Republic, and it’s still believed to be at an early stage of development. During the celebration of the national Star Wars Day on May 4, the studio’s website revealed more information about the team that is working on the game—and BioWare fans should be happy with that. It is mentioned that some of the RPG specialists are working on Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic alongside Casey Hudson, and these names are:
- Dan Fassenden, the senior technical designer; worked as a programmer and designer for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Mass Effect trilogy, and Dragon Age: Inquisition.
- Melanie Faulknor, the director of external development; the former localization project manager and producer at BioWare, who worked on Mass Effect 3, Dragon Age II, and Dragon Age: Inquisition.
- Caroline Livingstone, the director of production and performance; known as the voice-over director and producer for Mass Effect and Dragon Age game series.
- Ryan Hoyle, the chief technology officer; was a programmer at BioWare and worked on Knights of the Old Republic and the Mass Effect trilogy.
- Pascal Blanche, the art director; worked in the same position for Splinter Cell: Conviction, Far Cry: New Dawn, and the original Assassin’s Creed.
In addition, the other member of the developing team includes “talents from around the industry, including Microsoft, Epic, Remedy, The Coalition, ZeniMax, and others.”
Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic is the upcoming action-adventure RPG set during the Old Republic, as the title suggests. The game will feature a Force user as the protagonist, with the primary focus expected to be on the choice between the light and dark sides. Fate of the Old Republic is using Unreal Engine 5 and developing for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The release date is currently unknown, but Casey Hudson previously teased it will be available before 2030.
