IO Interactive Teased 007 First Light Could Receive a Sequel—If Players Enjoy The First Game

IO Interactive, the studio that is mostly known as Hitman game series developers, is preparing for the launch of their new title – 007 First Light. As the title suggests, the game will tell the origin story of the iconic movie character James Bond, but it will not adapt the direct plot of any film.

As shown in gameplay clips, 007 First Light will use certain elements from Hitman game series, primarily a lot of features related to stealth, but it will also offer players other ways to deal with enemies. The combat system, in turn, will be inspired by games such as Uncharted and Batman: Arkham, while missions can be completed in several different ways thanks to wide-linear design.

Meanwhile, in the new interview with The Game Business, the CEO of IO Interactive, Hakan Abrak, reveals that 007 First Light might get a potential sequel in the future—but only if players enjoy the first installment, on which the developers have pinned their hopes. He also spoke about the relationship with Amazon and MGM, and you can check out the highlights from his interview below:

“We have a great relationship. We are all about quality and to stand by what we do. And I think Amazon is in the same place. There’s no doubt that we all want to see how this is doing. It’s not only the Amazon MGM side, it's also the IO Interactive side. Is our character going to be well received? Is there going to be a community that likes him and wants to see more?

I’m so grateful given the stories we hear every day in this industry. We are so blessed that we are in a place where we can pick and choose what we want to do. So, if this goes really well and it’s a beloved thing from the community, why not?”

Recently, IO Interactive also confirmed that the duration of the story campaign in 007 First Light is approximately 20 hours. At the end of last month, some gaming media outlets were granted access to an early build of the game, and initial impressions of 007 First Light have been quite positive. The game has been specifically praised for its vibrant combat system, relentless action, and detailed environments, with many calling it the best Bond game ever created.

The game is releasing on May 27 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, and later in 2026 it will be available on Nintendo Switch 2.
