Another Rockstar Games Remaster Might Be Revealed Soon

In 2021, Grove Street Games released a collection of older GTA titles re-released under the title Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, which included remastered versions of GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas. Despite its enormous potential, the remake was met with a barrage of criticism from players and various gaming media due to numerous technical glitches, terrible optimization, and the feeling that the new games had unfortunately tarnished the legacy of the originals

Since then, the game has received numerous patches and fixes, but fans are unlikely to forget the period when the game first became available. We may see something similar soon, as Grove Street Games head Thomas Williamson hinted on his X profile that an announcement is coming on May 5—possibly another remaster of one of Rockstar Games’ older titles, since he mentioned last year that the studio was working on something “big.”

Curiously, Williamson disabled comments on the post following what were reportedly numerous negative comments from users; there is particular concern that the next remaster might be GTA IV, which has long been the subject of rumors. Fans’ concerns are justified, given how Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition turned out upon release; however, according to reputable insider NateTheHate, a remaster or remake of the fourth installment is not currently in the works.

Another noteworthy development that may be linked to the Grove Street Games executive’s post is the recent news that Rockstar Games’ Australian division is seeking candidates for the position of “Senior Gameplay Programmer” to work on “one or more classic game technology areas.” Furthermore, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick hinted that Rockstar Games may return to developing the L.A. Noire series in the future. We’ll find out very soon whether all these reports and statements are connected.
