Rockstar Games Might Be Working On Remastered Versions of Their Old Games
Rockstar Games is actively preparing for the release of GTA 6, the most anticipated game of 2026, which is set to launch this November on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. But that doesn’t mean the studio isn’t working on other projects, and new information from the developers themselves suggests that we may soon see remasters of older games.
Rockstar Games' Australian division has announced a job opening for a 'Senior Gameplay Programmer,' and fans were particularly intrigued by the statement that the future developer will be responsible for “one or more classic game technology areas,” as you can check out below:
“At Rockstar Games, we create world-class entertainment experiences.
Become part of a team working on some of the most rewarding, large-scale creative projects to be found in any entertainment medium - all within an inclusive, highly-motivated environment where you can learn and collaborate with some of the most talented people in the industry.
Rockstar is on the lookout for a talented Senior Gameplay Programmer with a passion for game development. You will be working as part of a small but experienced team, ideally taking responsibility for one or more classic game technology areas and stepping outside your comfort zone to work in other areas as necessary.
Candidates must have extensive knowledge and experience in software development and be comfortable working in large codebases with complicated build processes.
This is a full-time, permanent and in-office position based in Rockstar’s state-of-the-art game development studio in Sydney, Australia.”
This could indicate that the developers are preparing to release updated versions of their classic games. This discovery is particularly intriguing in light of a recent statement by Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, suggesting that Rockstar Games may be working on a new installment of L.A. Noire —or a remaster/remake of it.
However, many players would also like to see a remaster of Bully or GTA 4—but, according to insider NateTheGate, Rockstar Games currently has no plans to develop a remaster of Grand Theft Auto IV.
As for GTA 6, the fans are hoping that the new trailer of the game will be finally revealed this month, not only because of Take-Two’s next earnings call set for May 21 but also because Rockstar Games teased via GTA Online that the third trailer might be unveiled on May 24. The game is confirmed to release on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
