Insider Reveals Whether Rockstar Games Is Making a GTA 4 Port or Remaster
While the whole world is holding its breath in anticipation of Grand Theft Auto VI, set for release on November 19, some fans haven’t given up hope for a remake or remaster of GTA 4. Many fans believe that the fourth installment is the most underrated in the whole game series and deserves a release on modern consoles.
However, it looks like Rockstar Games currently doesn’t have any plans to bring a new version of Grand Theft Auto IV, as insider NateTheHate hints. During the latest conversation on X social media, one of the users asked the scooper if he knew something about a possible remaster of Grand Theft Auto VI, and you can check out his answer below:
“Hi NateTheHate, by any chance have you heard anything as of late regarding the GTA4 Port/ Remaster for current-gen consoles?
I've never heard of a GTA4 Port/Remaster.”
Rockstar Games is not the kind of studio that used to release the remastered versions or remakes of their old games. Back in 2023, the studio somewhat tarnished its reputation by releasing Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, remastered versions of GTA 3, GTA: Vice City, and GTA: San Andreas. Games that were considered—and still are considered—priceless classics became memes due to their controversial graphics and, as a result, the characters’ strange faces. On top of that, the game had a huge number of technical issues—it was plagued by constant crashes, bugs, texture problems, and FPS drops even on powerful systems. There were also issues with the Rockstar Game Launcher, which made it impossible to even try the games online, and they were subsequently temporarily removed from sale. It later emerged that The Definitive Edition was developed by Grove Street Games, rather than the main development team, which had previously been responsible for releasing mobile ports of GTA games.
Perhaps Rockstar Games simply doesn't want to entrust the development of remasters to other divisions after hearing this, as they fully concentrated on Grand Theft Auto VI’s development. Plus, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S gamers are still waiting for Red Dead Redemption 2 to be available on platforms, and previous rumors suggested the release is expected for this year.
As for GTA 6, the game is releasing for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19. You can also find out everything we know about GTA 6 so far, about the story, gameplay, map, open world, platforms, and more— here.
