Former The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Praises Crimson Desert and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
The Blood of Dawnwalker, a new RPG set in 14th-century Europe and featuring a vampire named Coen as the main character, is one of the most promising upcoming titles of 2026. Not only because of its setting and some fascinating gameplay features but also because the developing studio, Rebel Wolves, consists of plenty of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt developers, including its founder, Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, one of the game’s directors.
After the Road to Launch event, which took place on April 29 and revealed plenty of new information about Blood of Dawnwalker, as well as a story trailer, gameplay showcase, and system requirements, Konrad Tomaszkiewicz spoke with GamesRadar+, where he actually talked not about his upcoming games but about Crimson Desert and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which remind him of the early 90s, when the game really felt different. You can check out the highlights from his speech below:
"Dispatch was a great storytelling game how it approached writing dialog to create characters which you believe in. I'm playing Crimson Desert and checking how they approach freedom from the system perspective, because it's a different type of game, different type of RPG, but also really interesting when you play it, because you see that you can achieve totally different emotions with the game story heavy.
And I think that there is a lot of space to still upgrade this genre. But I also feel that it's really cool that we are in the place where we are. When we spoke about the games from last year and this year, like Crimson Desert, Dispatch, Clair Obscur, it reminds me of the '90s, early '90s, where every game which appears was sometimes similar in the meaning of genre, but really different in the meaning of how you control this game, how you experience stuff.”
In the previous interview with GamesRadar+, Tomaszkiewicz already praised both Crimson Desert and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and, according to him, these games “deliver something quite fresh.” He is also hoping that his upcoming RPG, The Blood of Dawnwalker, will follow suit and do everything possible to make it happen.
In The Blood of Dawnwalker, you play as Coen, a young man turned into a Dawnwalker, forever treading the line between the world of day and the realm of night. The game is set in 14th-century Europe and released on September 3 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.
