Blood of Dawnwalker Will Be Similar to Crimson Desert and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

The upcoming Blood of Dawnwalker is one of the most anticipated RPG projects of 2026, and, perhaps, the main reason is that the game is developed by former Witcher 3: Wild Hunt developers, led by Konrad Tomaszkiewicz—one of the game’s directors.

Although the game still doesn’t have a release date but is still expected to release somewhere in 2026, Blood of Dawnwalker is intriguing by its dark fantasy setting, focus on story, and the consequences made by players. Adding to the intrigue is a recent statement by the game's director, Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, who revealed in the latest interview with The Game Business that Blood of Dawnwalker will be similar to Crimson Desert and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 in that these games offer a fresh take on established conventions and introduce new concepts never before seen in games of this genre.

“The problem in this industry sometimes is that people opening companies are thinking about how to make money. This is a really cold approach for the games. You cannot create art like this.

I gathered around me people who love RPGs, and from the beginning we knew that we wanted to create story-driven, open world games with some twists. Opening a new company to do exactly the same things we did in the past is a problem, because we’ll not feel that we’re evolving, or developing ourselves. It was really important for us as artists. We want to push the boundaries of AAA RPGs by adding some risky stuff, which gives you more immersion, more emotions, and a different feel when you play.

I think that this is growing these days, because when you look at Clair Obscur, or Crimson Desert right now, those games are different. They are not a copy of other AAA games, but delivering something quite fresh. And I’m really glad of it because I’m starting to feel like I did in the 1990s when I played games on my 286 PC, or even on the Atari where every game was different game. Every game was some unknown. We want to deliver a similar experience for people.

I feel really confident about our game.”

The Blood of Dawnwalker is the upcoming action RPG video game developed by Rebel Wolves and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. The game is being developed for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5 and is expected to release this year.
