Players Are Unhappy with Starfield Performance on PlayStation 5
One week ago, Bethesda Game Studios released Starfield for PlayStation 5, as well as the game’s biggest update so far, Free Lanes, and the new DLC, Terran Armada. Unfortunately, despite some clear positives, the overall picture for the studio and the game turned out to be quite mixed.
Perhaps the most positive aspect is connected to Free Lanes update, which significantly enhances the gaming experience thanks to a host of new features and takes players' immersion to a whole new, unprecedented level. But you cannot say the same about Starfield’s new expansion, Terran Armada; it’s currently having 56% negative reviews on Steam, and the players are not satisfied, first, with its duration.
The long-awaited PlayStation 5 version of the game is also receiving multiple issues, including crashes, freezes, and problems with saving, and some Reddit users are seriously determined to request refunds until the game becomes playable. You can check out some of the comments from Reddit users below:
“I'm getting crashes every 2 minutes. Tried everything. Delete saves. Tried performance 30 and 60 fps. Delete the game n redownload it. And its still happening.
Every other game is working fine and i never had any chrashes. Its just starfield....
This is not acceptable. They should refund us!”
“PS5 Pro user.
Visuals Mode 60fps
All autosaves off
Tested on Vanilla and light LO nothing of which touches weather, environments or poi's
Consistent crashing. Mostly when scanning and exploring. I haven't even left Kreet yet.
When I say crashing it's more a freeze. It's not crashing to home screen. The game freezes and forces you to quit game.
Hotfix needed asap. Incredibly disappointing but sadly totally unsurprising.
Ticket submitted.”
“Playing on PS5 Pro, constant freezing and crashing while building ship. Also while scanning planets. Since launch had over 20 freezes and crashes. Unplayable.”
“I'm on ps5 pro and was crashing every hour. Had 8 crashes and tried multiple fixes, I'm not sure which one has helped but I went into the ps5 display settings turned off pssr enhancement, turned off vrr and reduced the resolution to 1440p from 2160p. I also have auto saves disabled and managed to run the game for 7 hours without crashing on a mix of performance mode at 60fps and enhanced mode 60fps.
Normally new Atlantis would crash every 15 minutes of me running around but since making these changes I've been able to actually progress.
You shouldn't have to make these changes and I hope Bethesda release a proper hot fix soon but thought I'd share in case it helps anyone.”
At this moment, Bethesda Game Studios hasn’t released any patch or update to PS5 version of Starfield; however, given the growing number of negative user comments, the studio will most likely find a solution to the game’s numerous issues in the near future.
Starfield, and its Free Lane update and new DLC, Terran Armada, are currently available on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.
