The Witcher 4 May Face an Even More Challenging Launch Than Cyberpunk 2077
Back in 2020, when CD Projekt RED finally released Cyberpunk 2077 after a few delays, the players absolutely destroyed the game for plenty of technical issues - so that Sony even removed the game from the PlayStation Store, and millions of players requested refunds. Anyway, after months of hard work and numerous updates, Cyberpunk 2077 has earned its place and is now considered one of the best RPGs of this generation.
Given past mistakes, fans are disturbed that the upcoming release of The Witcher 4, CD Projekt RED’s next major project, might suffer the same fate as it did nearly six years ago—especially considering that the game uses Unreal Engine 5, which is often plagued by performance issues. And even despite the previous comments that the game will be well optimized, a recent comment from one of The Witcher 4 developers caused great concern among the players.
It all started with the tweet by user NikTek, who decided to remember how bad Cyberpunk 2077 was in 2020, when the game was launched. He called the 1.0 version “basically a ghost town” after attaching the relevant screenshot, until a CD Projekt RED employee named Dennis39126670 intervened; his profile states that he is Senior Character Artist. You can check out his now-deleted reply in the image below:
“Wait for The Witcher 4. It will be worse because our leadership does not learn”
This is a serious statement from one of the developers, and it’s no surprise his tweet is now deleted. Some of other users have suggested his account might be hacked after these comments, but at the same time, fans are concerned about the potential release of The Witcher 4. Given all the criticism CD Projekt RED faced when Cyberpunk 2077 was released, it’s scary to think what might happen to the studio if they fail to properly optimize the upcoming fourth installment of their flagship game series. But hopefully the studio knows what to do, and recent confirmation that 500 developers are working on The Witcher 4, which is twice as many as on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, is giving some sense of hope and optimism.
Besides The Witcher 4, another franchise installment, specifically, DLC to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, is reportedly in development. Although the project is not confirmed by CD Projekt RED yet, it is believed that Fool’s Theory is developing a new add-on, which will set up events for the upcoming fourth game.
