The Witcher 4 Will Be Well Optimized With Unreal Engine 5

The latest The Witcher title, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, released back in 2015, has used REDengine 3, CD Projekt RED’s own engine, while the upcoming The Witcher 4 is confirmed to use Unreal Engine 5. This update has made the fans a little bit upset, considering how much CD Projekt RED developed its own engine and used it in Cyberpunk 2077 (it was improved and called REDengine 4), and the game potentially could receive some technical issues during the development.

Despite the concerns of the players, it seems like The Witcher 4 will be well optimized with Unreal Engine 5. According to the X social media account WitcherIVnews, with a reference to CD Projekt RED’s representatives, the developers have been working with Unreal Engine 5 during the game’s development for 5 years, and that could be the sign The Witcher 4 will receive great optimization and will not have troubles during the launch—however, it’s not an exception at all.

“ICYMI: CDPR has been working on The Witcher 4 with Unreal Engine 5 for nearly five years.

According to CDPR: technical development on the game using UE5 began around 2021-2022, and we're very happy with what we've achieved.”

The source also shared the idea that The Witcher 4 is likely to have a stutter-free open world, as it replied to the post of senior software engineer at Epic Games, Ari Arnbjornsson, who showed how it’s possible to get zero stutters in video games, as you can check below:

“Well, with all these advancements, I think The Witcher 4 is basically going to give us an almost stutter-free open world (and probably get rid of most of the classic UE5 open world issues too).”

The Witcher 4 is confirmed to be in development for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5, the release date remains unknown for now. At the same time, a new DLC for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is reportedly in development that will set up the events for the upcoming fourth title.
