Grand Theft Auto VI Was Originally Set to Release on PlayStation 4
According to reports, Rockstar Games started the development of Grand Theft Auto VI somewhere in 2018, likely after the release of Red Dead Redemption 2. Since then, a lot of things likely have changed; some of the features were cut, and important decisions have been made. The game is currently confirmed to release this November for the current generation of consoles, but it looks like the sixth GTA installment could have been in development for another platform.
Recently, Grand Theft Auto VI’s ID has been added to the PlayStation database, as spotted by the PlayStation Game Size portal. Besides this being the indicator that pre-orders for GTA 6 will be available soon, the game was also in development for PlayStation 4, probably some years ago. Software programmer Amethyst has noticed this in Sony’s database, and you can check his post below:
“GTA6 comes to PlayStation 5... and PS4?
Nah, obviously not, but it's there ^^ (at least in Sony's databases)
Anyway, everyone is talking about GTA6 having two IDs, but no one is talking about the fact that both are linked to “PS4”
Although we haven’t heard any comments from Rockstar Games or some gaming insiders, like Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier or Tom Henderson, about the planned release of Grand Theft Auto VI on PlayStation 4, it’s possible Rockstar considered that during the early stage of development. However, the console could have been too old for the scale of the game, and it’s good the idea was ultimately scrapped.
For now, you can learn everything we know about Grand Theft Auto VI so far here.
Grand Theft Auto VI will release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19.
