Sandfall Interactive Spoke About Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s Difficult Development
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is surely one of the best games of this generation, as it's currently the second most GOTY-awarded video game of all time. Of course, Sandfall Interactive, the developers, didn’t expect their project to be so good, and in the recent interview, they revealed the development of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 hasn’t been an easy walk.
Specifically, creative director Guillaume Broche, lead designer Michel Nora, and the game’s producer Francois Meurisse recently spoke with Edge Magazine, when they all spoke about the development of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Firstly, they clarified they wanted to make their studio consist of young and junior developers. As explained by Guillaume Broche, the city of Montpellier, where the studio is located, is a “super-young city, and senior developers tend to go for safer options,” which wasn’t a priority for the game. Then, Michel Nora added that young developers have added a lot to the game, as they didn't have any expectations of how the game should be made. At last, the game’s producer, Francois Meurisse, summed up that they didn’t have enough money for more experienced employees, so basically, they “did twice the work,” as the focus was on building up the staff and creating something new.
“I'd say we basically did twice the work, because we were doing things for the first time to that scale”
Francois Meurisse also recently confirmed the studio is already working on a new video game, and they currently are thinking of ideas for what their new project could be about.
