Capcom Have Cancelled a Resident Evil Game for Game Boy Color
While the fans are waiting for the next Resident Evil entry called Resident Evil Requiem, set to release next February, we just received a sort of information about a cancelled game of the series.
Games That Weren’t portal revealed the details of a cancelled Resident Evil title, developed for Game Boy Color by HotGen studio.
Assistant programmer Pete Frith, who worked on a project back in the 1990s, has confirmed the game was finished approximately at 98%, but it was cancelled because some of the creators decided the Game Boy Color was not an appropriate platform for a Resident Evil game. Unfortunately, it’s not mentioned whether Shinji Mikami, the game series creator, or producer Tokuro Fujiwara was involved in this case. Some images and the gameplay footage from the cancelled Resident Evil for Game Boy Color you can check below:

"Our first big Christmas update is with an amazing recovery of the final build of Resident Evil on Gameboy Color. Hotgen's impressive conversion that got canned. This is much closer to completion, and seems completable too. Lots to discover!"
The next Resident Evil game, Resident Evil Requiem, will release on February 27, 2026, for PC, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2. Also, according to a recent insider’s report, two Resident Evil remakes are in the works—Resident Evil Code: Veronica and Resident Evil Zero—set to release in 2027 and 2028, respectively.
