October 23 holds a special place in the Fallout universe — it is the date the bombs fell in 2077, beginning the Great War that turned the world into the irradiated wasteland players have explored for decades. Each year, Bethesda uses the day to connect with its fanbase, highlight community projects, and share news about ongoing developments across its Fallout titles.

According to Bethesda’s announcement, the broadcast will feature “the latest news about our existing Fallout games, community celebrations, and upcoming fan events.” While no mention of new games or remakes was made, speculation among fans has quickly followed the reveal.

The community’s curiosity is partly fueled by ongoing rumors surrounding potential Fallout remasters. Following the release of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, talk has resurfaced about Fallout 3 Remastered, which was leaked in 2023 but has yet to materialize. Many players believe Bethesda might revisit the classic title or announce an anniversary edition as part of its celebration.

For now, the most likely focus of Fallout Day 2025 will be Fallout 76. The online RPG continues to receive steady updates, with the upcoming Burning Springs expansion introducing new regions and storylines. Bethesda also recently confirmed that Fallout 76 will feature The Ghoul — a character from Prime Video’s Fallout TV series — voiced and modeled after actor Walton Goggins. This crossover marks another step in uniting the show’s growing audience with the long-time gaming community.

With Fallout Season 2 scheduled to premiere on Prime Video in December, set in New Vegas, the broadcast may include a new trailer or exclusive look at the next chapter of the hit adaptation. The first season’s success brought renewed attention to the franchise, introducing millions of new fans to the Fallout universe and driving record engagement across Bethesda’s titles.

The discussion around Fallout 5, however, remains quiet. Bethesda’s Todd Howard last spoke about the project in June 2024, confirming the studio had no plans to rush development. “For other Fallout games in the future, you know, obviously I can’t talk about those right now, but I would say, sort of rushing through them, or we kind of need to get stuff out that is different than the work we’re doing in 76… we don’t feel like we need to rush any of that,” said Howard. “The Fallout TV show fills a certain niche in terms of the franchise and storytelling.” — Todd Howard

Howard’s comments emphasized that Bethesda intends to take its time with any new entry in the series, balancing fan expectations with long-term creative goals. The studio is still focused on The Elder Scrolls 6, which remains in development, meaning Fallout 5 is unlikely to appear anytime soon.

The last mainline Fallout release was Fallout 4 in 2015, followed by a series of DLCs and the multiplayer-focused Fallout 76 in 2018. While Fallout 76 struggled at launch, its reputation has improved significantly through consistent updates and live events. The Prime Video adaptation’s success has further revitalized interest in the game and the broader franchise.

Bethesda’s strategy now seems aimed at maintaining the franchise’s momentum through media synergy, live service updates, and community engagement rather than major new releases. “Totally get the desire for a new kind of mainline single-player game,” Howard said in the same 2024 interview. “And look, those things take time. I don’t think it’s bad for people to miss things. We just want to get it right and make sure that everything we’re doing in a franchise, whether it’s Elder Scrolls, Fallout, or now Starfield, that those become meaningful moments for everybody who loved these franchises as much as we do.” — Todd Howard
