New Battle Modes: Farming and Ranked

Multiplayer battles are being completely reimagined.

Clash of Clans October 2025 Update – Everything You Need to Know 1

From now on, the system will be divided into two distinct modes:

  • Battle Mode (Farming): The classic farming experience. Players can freely select opponents, skip bases, and collect resources without worrying about trophies.
  • Ranked Battle Mode: Designed for competitive play. Trophies are now earned exclusively in Ranked Battles, which feature limited daily attacks and no skipping. This system lets players progress at their own pace without being pushed prematurely into the Legends League.

When joining Ranked Mode, players register for a weekly tournament. During sign-up, you’ll:

  • Set up your defensive base layout and Clan Castle troops (these are saved as “snapshots,” so your real troops remain available).
  • Choose one of three competitive modifiers — Expert, Master, or Legend.

You’ll then be grouped with 100 players from the same League tier and compete across the week for promotion or demotion. There are no attack limits — play as much as you want until the weekly reset.

How Battles and Trophies Work

Trophy gains now depend entirely on battle performance:

  • 3-Star Victory: +40 trophies
  • 2-Star Victory: +16–32 trophies (based on destruction)
  • 1-Star Victory: +5–15 trophies
  • 0-Star Attack: Up to +4 trophies (if at least 10% destruction)

Defenses matter, too. If your base withstands an attack, you gain trophies equal to the difference between your opponent’s score and 40.

Weekly League Tournaments & Matchmaking

Ranked Battles follow a weekly cycle:

  • Sign-Up: Monday 5 AM – Friday 5 AM UTC
  • Battle Period: Tuesday 5 AM – Monday 5 AM UTC
  • Reset: Monday 5 AM – Tuesday 5 AM UTC

Players can join manually or enable Auto Sign-Up to stay enrolled. Once your layout is locked in, matchmaking groups you automatically.

New League Structure

The new competitive system introduces 34 total leagues, including 33 divisions below Legend League. Each Town Hall now has a League Floor, ensuring fair matchmaking and preventing you from dropping below your progress tier.

For instance, Town Hall 17 players can’t fall below the Electro Titan tier. Skipping a week won’t penalize you immediately, but after one missed week, League Decay begins — dropping one division per inactive week until you reach your floor.

Star Bonus, League Bonus & Loot Changes

Both Battle and Ranked modes now contribute to the Star Bonus, which grants resources and Starry Ore. The League Bonus has been rebalanced — loot now scales based on destruction percentage (e.g., 50% damage = 80% bonus).

All loot in Ranked comes from a snapshot system, so rewards are generated by the game — not stolen from real bases.

New League Achievements

Supercell is retiring the old “League All-Star” achievement in favor of a new series:League Follower, Enthusiast, Superfan, Fanatic, and Lunatic — each offering Gems and XP for milestone progress. Players reaching the top ranks can earn up to 3,600 Gems, the highest ever.

Magic Shield System

The update’s biggest overhaul is the Magic Shield, replacing both the Village Guard and the traditional Shield.

How it works:

  • If 30% or more of your loot is stolen, you automatically receive an 8-hour Magic Shield.
  • You can attack freely while shielded — attacking no longer shortens shield time.
  • Enemies attack a shadow version of your base, so you lose no real loot.
  • The Magic Shield applies to Battle Mode only (Ranked Mode retains the existing system).

Shop options:

  • 1-Day Shield – 100 Gems (4-day cooldown)
  • 2-Day Shield – 150 Gems (7-day cooldown)
  • 1-Week Shield – 250 Gems (35-day cooldown)

Returning players inactive for 35+ days will get a free 48-hour Magic Shield.

Revenge System Rework

The long-forgotten Revenge button finally gets a proper rework:

  • You can now revenge any attacker who stole 30% or more of your loot within 12 hours.
  • Every revenge fight uses a shadow base, allowing you to attack regardless of their online or shield status.
  • You’ll always recover at least the loot you lost, and possibly more.
  • Revenge battles now count toward your Star Bonus, League Bonus, and events.

Unified Town Hall Upgrades

Town Halls 12 through 15 and 17 are now streamlined — the old “star upgrade” system is gone. Each now has a single upgrade level, reducing both grind and resource costs.

If you were mid-upgrade, it’ll be automatically completed, and your Town Hall weapon will match fully maxed stats.

Spring Trap Rework

Spring Traps now target a single troop — the one with the highest housing space nearby. If it exceeds the trap’s capacity, the troop takes heavy damage or is launched vertically if it survives.

Seven new upgrade levels (from Town Hall 11 to 12) are being added, and Builder Base traps are also included in this rework.

Tournament Mode (formerly Hard Mode)

Hard Mode has officially been renamed Tournament Mode, with new balancing tweaks:

  • All defensive buildings: +20% DPS
  • Defending Heroes: +20% DPS & HP
  • Attacking Heroes: –10% DPS & HP
  • Equipment caps lowered: Common (–3 levels, max 15), Epic (–6 levels, max 21)

Tournament Mode remains the ultimate test of skill for top-tier players.

Loot and Economy Overhaul

Attacking higher Town Hall levels now gives bonus resources, while attacking lower levels still incurs a penalty. The Loot Cart return rate drops from 20% to 10%, aligning with the revamped in-game economy.

Upgrade times and costs have been significantly reduced across multiple Town Hall tiers. Additionally, 15 Hero levels (five each for the Barbarian King, Archer Queen, and Grand Warden) have been shifted from Town Hall 15 to 14, making progression smoother.

Balance Adjustments

A range of tweaks round out the update:

  • Diggy now stuns all targets, including Heroes and Clan Castle troops.
  • Heroic Torch speed boost now benefits the Grand Warden.
  • Grand Warden AI improved to better follow targets.
  • Defensive Furnace damage slightly reduced to prevent one-shotting Healers.

Final Thoughts

The October 2025 update marks a massive step forward for Clash of Clans. From the new Ranked system and Magic Shield to the streamlined upgrades and revamped traps, this overhaul modernizes nearly every aspect of the game while giving players more control than ever before.
