Path of Exile 2 Launches Major Update “Third Edict” Alongside Free Weekend

Grinding Gear Games has released a massive update for the early version of Path of Exile 2, rolling out patch 0.3.0 “Third Edict”. To celebrate, the developers have launched a free weekend event that runs until September 1, 22:00 CET, giving players the chance to try the game for free on all available platforms. All progress made during this period will carry over.

Free Rewards for Players

Those who take part in the event can unlock several cosmetic rewards tied to in-game achievements:

  • Exile’s Hood – awarded upon reaching the Clearfell camp.
  • Exile’s Staff – earned by defeating the Rotten Druid in the Murky Thickets.
  • Exile’s Cloak – unlocked after defeating Count Jeonor at the end of Act One.

What’s New in “Third Edict”

The new update introduces a wide range of features and improvements, including:

  • Extensive gameplay updates and a global rebalance.
  • A fourth story act, set across the diverse islands of Ngamakanu with new enemies and bosses.
  • Three new mini-acts expanding the campaign.
  • The “Awakening of the Abyss” challenge league, where players seal rifts throughout Wraeclast to earn valuable rewards.
  • Endgame abyssal content, 25 new Atlas maps, and related events.
  • Sprinting available for all character classes.
  • A fully reworked support gem system.
  • Expanded crafting mechanics.
  • Asynchronous player-to-player trading, removing the need for direct vendors.
  • New skills, items, and support gems.

The early version of Path of Exile 2 is currently playable on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, and the standalone client), as well as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. After its full release, the game will transition into a free-to-play model permanently.
