Xbox Game Pass May Get Major Changes in 2027
Xbox Game Pass could undergo a major overhaul in 2027. According to a new report, Microsoft is considering significant changes to the subscription's pricing and features, including the removal of day-one releases.
The ad-free version could reportedly cost $19.99 per month instead of $9.99, while a cheaper plan with advertisements could be introduced for $12.99.
Day-One Releases Could Disappear
One of the biggest changes would be the end of day-one releases for Game Pass subscribers. New Xbox games could stop being added to the service on their release date, with the change reportedly planned for February–April 2027.
Microsoft could instead offer different subscription tiers with access to different features.
Cloud Gaming and Multiplayer Could Become Separate
Cloud gaming could also be removed from the standard Game Pass package and offered separately for $5.99 per 25 hours.
Online multiplayer could reportedly become its own subscription for $10.99 per month, while a plan combining multiplayer and the Game Pass library could cost $14.99.
A family access option could also become a separate $5.99 monthly add-on.
The reported structure would therefore include:
- Game Pass with ads: $12.99/month
- Game Pass without ads: $19.99/month
- Game Pass + online multiplayer: $14.99/month
- Online multiplayer: $10.99/month
- Cloud gaming: $5.99 for 25 hours
- Family access: $5.99/month
Microsoft has not confirmed these changes, so the information should be treated as a rumor for now. However, if the plans are accurate, Game Pass could become considerably more expensive for players who want access to all of its current features.
