Bandai Namco has released Patch 1.02.1 for Elden Ring Nightreign, bringing balance adjustments, bug fixes, and performance improvements. While the update doesn’t add new content, it focuses on refining gameplay—particularly around the “Storm Ruler” skill.

Launched earlier this year, Elden Ring Nightreign is a multiplayer soulslike with co-op mechanics. The game earned positive reviews, holding an 81 average score on OpenCritic, praised for its combat but critiqued for solo balance at launch. Riding on the hype of the original Elden Ring, the game sold 3.5 million copies in under a week.

⚔️ Key Balance Changes

Patch 1.02.1 primarily tweaks the Storm Ruler skill:

• Reduced the time required to charge the storm effect.
• Increased the speed of the unleashed blade.
• Boosted attack power in situations where the storm effect isn’t charged.

🐞 Major Bug Fixes

The update squashes over a dozen bugs, including:

• Fixed an issue where using dropped items could lock player actions.
• Resolved a guard effect bug that failed to trigger for specific actions.
• Addressed targeting and damage calculation errors for Everdark Sovereigns “Maris, Fathom of Night” and “Caligo, Miasma of Night.”
• Corrected problems with relic effects, including healing inconsistencies when using Flasks.
• Fixed display mismatches for relic sorting and effect values.
• Resolved PS5-specific crash and HUD disappearance issues.

Note: One healing bug involving the “Gradual Restoration by Flask” passive effect remains and will be addressed in a future patch.

Patch 1.02.1 comes right after Patch 1.02, which added:

• Duo Expeditions – Co-op for two players, balanced for that team size.
• Relic filtering upgrades and expanded preset slots from 50 to 100.

🔮 Future Content?

While no new gameplay features arrived in this patch, dataminers recently discovered hints of a possible new mode—“Deep of Night”—described as a ranked, endless dungeon. FromSoftware has not confirmed this mode’s existence or release window.

📉 Player Numbers

Despite strong early sales, Elden Ring Nightreign’s Steam player count has dropped from 313,000+ concurrent players at launch to just over 52,000 recently. Ongoing updates may help sustain the remaining community.
