A Growing Roster of Crossovers

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is already shaping up to be Sega’s ambitious answer to Nintendo’s Mario Kart World, and its growing list of crossover content is helping it stand out. During the Summer Games Fest, Sega showcased a star-studded lineup of six crossover characters, including:

  • Hatsune Miku
  • Ichiban Kasuga from Like a Dragon
  • Characters from Minecraft: Steve, Alex, and even the Creeper

Now, with SpongeBob and Patrick joining the fun, the game teases even more collaborations on the horizon. The trailer briefly hints at future Nickelodeon additions, such as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Avatar: The Last Airbender characters.

Launch Details & Gameplay Innovations

Scheduled for release on September 25, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is set to launch with a rumored base roster of 23 characters — not including crossover racers — and 24 unique tracks. The game introduces exciting new gameplay mechanics, such as:

  • Boat Mode for water-based races
  • Flight Mode for high-flying tracks
  • Travel Rings that transport players between reimagined “CrossWorlds” tracks

Dialogue, Crossplay, and Competitive Edge

Sega isn’t just focusing on characters and tracks — they’re packing CrossWorlds with flair and competitive features. Players will encounter over 500 dynamic dialogue interactions between racers, allowing for playful banter and rivalries before each race begins.

In a bold move, Sega has also taken direct aim at Mario Kart, highlighting CrossWorlds' cross-play support as a major advantage over Nintendo’s title.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is not only expanding the Sonic universe but also embracing a multiverse of iconic characters and brands. With its mix of nostalgic cameos, creative tracks, and competitive features, it’s shaping up to be one of the most exciting kart racers of the year.
