Hosted by Geoff Keighley, the show will feature Hideo Kojima himself, along with special guests, a panel discussion, and what’s being teased as a live gameplay demonstration. With the full release set for June 26, 2025, this marks the final major push before the game lands on PlayStation 5.

And yes, the whole thing will be streamed on YouTube, so anyone not in LA can watch from home.

This is Kojima’s moment.

You already know he’s not showing up to casually plug a game. This event is part art performance, part narrative drop, and probably part emotional gut punch. If there’s gameplay, it’ll be weird and layered. If there’s a panel, expect rambling genius and vague teases.

And if you’re wondering whether it’s worth staying up for—well, it starts at 3 am UK time. Your call.

A global stage for an emotional sequel

The "On the Beach" event kicks off Kojima Productions’ world tour, a unique promotional strategy that blends physical locations with digital access. It’s not just a press show. It’s a signal that Death Stranding 2 is going to be big, global, and emotional.

The name itself—“On the Beach”—carries narrative weight. For fans of the original game, the beach is where life, death, memory, and trauma collide. The new promotional artwork shows Sam Porter Bridges kissing a blond toddler’s forehead, suggesting deeply personal stakes are once again at the centre of the story.

Kojima has also teased a stronger focus on human connection, post-traumatic healing, and the emotional consequences of isolation. This isn't just more package delivery—it’s a journey back to people.

Quote from Ed Nightingale (Eurogamer):

"So far, feels like the most Kojima-game yet."

That's saying something. This is the guy who once turned a boss fight into a psychological breakdown. Expect the unexpected.

While full details are still under wraps, here’s what’s confirmed for June 8:

  • Panel discussion with Hideo Kojima and unnamed special guests. Expect appearances from actors, developers, or longtime collaborators.
  • Live gameplay demo, potentially showing never-before-seen mechanics or story content.
  • Host: Geoff Keighley, longtime Kojima collaborator and Summer Game Fest organizer.
  • Livestream platform: PlayStation's YouTube Channel
  • Time: 7pm PDT/ 10pm EDT/ 3am BST (June 9)

Tickets are also available for in-person attendance, though capacity is limited.

There’s no battle royale. No loot box showcase. No multiplayer monetization pitch. This is a single-player sci-fi opera about grief, love, reconnection, and walking through the end of the world. And it’s being shown by the guy who redefined what “a cutscene” even is.

A PS5 exclusive with cinematic weight

Death Stranding 2 launches exclusively on PlayStation 5 on June 26, 2025. It’s not just a sequel—it’s Kojima’s first major title since cutting ties with Konami and establishing full creative control. The original Death Stranding polarized players but earned a devoted fanbase for its slow, introspective pace and radical ideas.

This sequel aims to push further. Based on previous trailers and the tone of the event, expect more cinematic ambition, weirder storytelling, and an expanded supporting cast.

If you care about narrative-driven games or experimental storytelling, this is the livestream to watch. Death Stranding 2 is shaping up to be Kojima unfiltered, emotionally charged, and technically ambitious.

June 8 isn’t just a panel—it’s an invitation into his mind.
